Disclaimer – I am not a professional translator or professional pattern-writer! Also this is a secondary translation, since my friend has translated the original pattern from German to Russian, and I am using her work to make English translation. Unfortunately, she is not in Ravelry, so I cannot give her proper credit.

I just can hope that such complicated process didn’t introduce too many additional errors. If you see any typos, errors, etc – please send me a message, and I will correct them.

I also put my personal comments in blue – please ignore them if you want to follow original Abbel’s pattern.

Also, Figures 1,2 and 5 are photos by Abble Wagner. Figures 3 and 4 are mine – to illustrate some not-so-clear moments of the description.

Materials: " Holiday Jamaika" (104m / 50g), crochet hook #3.

Size: European 38 (bust 88cm, waist 70cm, hips 94cm).

To achieve bigger size the designer recommends increasing the diameter of the back to fit your measurements, and then just follow the instructions for the front recalculating the number of motives according to your count.

I made this sweater for my then 5-year old using Bernat baby yarn. I used almost 200g (4 small skeins), using  2.5 mm hook. I followed the pattern and arrived to the back of 32 cm (13 inches) wide, which was exactly what I needed.

Start with 6 ch, join in a ring with sl.st.
Rnd 1: 3 ch ( = 1 dc), 11 dc into the ring, join with sl.st.
Rnd 2: 5 ch ( = 1 dc + 2 ch),1 dc + 2 ch in each dc of previous row, join with sl.st.
Rnd 3: 1 sl.st. to the center of 2 –ch space of the second row, 3 ch ( = 1 dc) + 2 dc in the same space, 1 ch, 3 dc + 1 ch in each 2-ch space around, join with sl.st.
Rnd 4: 8 ch (= 1 tr + 4 ch ), 1 tr + 4 ch in each 1-ch space around, finishing with 3 ch and 1 dc in 4th of 8 ch in the beginning of the row.
Rnd 5: 3 ch, 2 dc in the same space of the last row ( over the last  dc made in Rnd 4),* 3 dc + 2 ch + 3.dc  in next 4-ch space*.Repeat from * to * around, finishing with  3 dc +1 ch in the initial space; finish with 1 tr in the third of first 3 ch.

Rnd 6: 3 ch; 2 dc in the same space of the last row (over the last  tr made in Rnd 5); 1 ch; *skip 3 dc of the last row, 1 sc between the groups of 3 skipped dc and next 3 dc; 1 ch; 3 dc + 3 ch + 3 dc in the next space of the last row; 1 ch *. In the following, always repeat from * to *.
Rnd 7: *4 ch ; 1 tr in sc of the last row; 4 ch,1 sc in  next 3-ch space of the last row *, finish with 4 ch

Rnd 8: 1 sl.st. in the first space of last raw, 3 ch + 1 dc + 2 ch + 2 dc in the same space. * 2 dc + 2 ch + 2 dc ( = 1 shell) in next 2-ch space *.
Rnd 9: * 1 ch, 2 dc + 2 ch + 2 dc in next 2-ch space, 1 ch; skip 2 dc
of the previous round, 1 sc between two groups of 2 dc*.
Rnd 10: with slip stitches to the space in the center of the first shell; 3 ch + 2 ch + 3.dc in the same space, 2 ch, * 3 dc + 2 ch + 3 dc in the next 2-ch space, 2 ch *.
Rnd 11: with  slip stitches to the space in the center of the first shell; 3 ch + 2 dc + 2 ch + 3 dc in the same space; 2 ch * 1 sc in the next 2-ch space, 2 ch, 3 dc + 2 ch + 3 dc in the 2-ch space in the next shell, 2 ch *.
Rnd 12 : worked as Rnd 10.
Rnd 13: worked as Rnd 11
Rnd 14:  with  slip stitches to the space in the center of the first shell, * 5 ch, 1 tr in sc, 5 ch, 1 sc in 2-ch space in the next shell *, finish with  5 ch, join with sl.st.
Rnd 15: worked as Rnd 8.

Rnd 16: * 1 shell in the next space, skip 2 dc, 1 sc between two skipped dc and nest two dc *
Rnd17: worked as Rnd 10.
Rnd 18:: worked as Row 11
Rnd 19: worked as Rnd 10.

The width of the back is approximately
49
см [20 inches] – for adult model.

Front panels and the front shoulder straps

Leave
15 shells unworked – they will become a top of the back. The side/front panels starts and ends at 1st  and 15th shells.

Row 1: 3 ch + 2 dc + 2 ch +3 dc in first space, * 2 ch, 1 sc between two shells, 2 ch, 3 dc + 2 ch + 3 dc in the next 2-ch space *. In following repeat from  * to *.
Row 2: 3 ch, dc in each of next two , 1 sc in 2-ch space, * 5 ch, 1 tr in sc, 5 ch, 1 sc in 2-ch space in next shell *, finish with 5.ch, sc in last 2-ch space, dc in each of next dc. Fasten off.
Row 3: Make 39 ch and attach it with 4 dc to the last 4 stitches of the Row 2 of front panel, * 2 dc + 2 ch + 2 dc in next 5-ch space*, finish with 4 dc in the last 4 stitches of the previous row
, 39 ch.

The 39-ch chains become a basis for the front of the shoulder strap. Now every Row will start with 39 sc + 4 dc for the strap. These stitches are not mentioned later.
Row 4: worked as Row 16 of the Back.
5 row: worked as Row 10 of the Back

The main idea for the following work is to loosely divide the work into three parts – two side/front panels and the bottom of the back, and to make the sides wider by working couple “short rows”

Row 6: worked as Row 11 of the Back, but without 2 ch between sc and shell) across 16 shells; finishing with 1 sc; leave the central part unworked, place marker; repeat for the last16 shells on the other side.
Row 7: worked as Row 10 of the Back through all side stitches, except for the central part.

Row 8: worked as Row 11 of the Back through stitches, but when transitioning from the side part to the back (the stitches made in Row 5) make 3ch instead of 2ch between cs and next shell.

This is how I made these three rows: I placed two markers dividing the whole work into 3 parts of 16 shells, worked the first 16 shells  (Row 6), turn the work and worked these 16 shells for Row 7, turn and work Row 18 on the first 16 shells, then continued across central 16 chells as described in Row 8, then for the last 16 shells I continued from the second marker as Row 6, turned, worked Row 7 on these shells, turned again and worked Row 8 on the same shells.
Row 9: worked as Row 10 of the Back worked across all stitches.
Row 10: worked as Row 8 of the Back across 24 shells,1 sl.st. to the next tr., leave the central part unworked, place marker; repeat for the last 24 shells on the other side.
Row 11: worked as Row 9 of the Back across all stitches.
Row 12: worked as Row 10 of the Back but without 2 ch between shells across 23 shells,1 sl.st. to the next tr., leave the central part unworked, place marker; repeat for the last 23 shells on the other side.

Row 13: worked as Row 11 of the Back across all stitches, but without 2 ch b/w shells and (2 dc + 2ch + 2 dc) in each shell in the central part.
Again, I made these Rows without braking the yarn the following way: I’ve started with dividing all work into three parts – 24 shells for each side, and whatever is left in the center. Starting at the top of one side, I worked Row 10 across first 23 shells, turned and worked Row 11 on the same shells, turned again and worked Row 12 on same shells, and then proceeded working Row 11 on the central shells and then Row 10 on the last 24 shells. Then I turned the work and worked Row 11 on the last 24 shells, turned the work again and finished Row 12 on the same shells. Finally, I worked Row 13 across all shells, being careful to make shells differently in the central part, as described above.

Row 14: worked as Row 10 of the Back across all stitches. Fasten off

Armhole shaping and the center Back.

Leave 1.5 shells unworked at each side of the work. Then continue the central Back part as following:
Row 1: 10 tr, 5 hdc, sc across until last 15 stitches, 5 hdc, 10 tr.

Row 2: 10 dc, 10 hdc, sc across until last 20 stitches, 10 hdc, 10 tr.
Row 3: 5 dc, 10 hdc, sc across until last 15 stitches, 5 hdc, 10 tr.
Row 4 – 10: sc in all stitches across.
For Back strap part make 24 rows of sc across outer 11 stitches on both sides. Sew
Front and Back straps together.

The main idea is to “flatten” the rounded top of the back, laking “taller” stitches on the side. Also, I suggest to try on the jacket to accurately adjust the length of the straps.

Sleeves

儿童钩衣 - badupiano - 这家伙很懒,什么也没留下。。。

Start working around armhole from underarm.
Row
1: 3 ch ( = 1 dc), * 2 ch, skip 3 stitches, 1 dc  *; total of 25 2-ch spaces.
I think there is a typo here in the original pattern – the number of spaces must be dividable to 4, so it should be 24 spaces.
Row 2:
1 sl.st in next space, * 2 dc + 2 ch + 2 dc in 2-ch space, 2 ch, 1 sc in next 2-ch space, 2 ch * across
Row 3: 1 ch, then as Row  2, but making  1 ch between sc and shell.
Row 4: 1 ch, then as Row 3
Row 5: 2 ch, * 2 dc + 2 ch + 2 dc in next shell, 2 ch *
Row 6: 2 ch, * 2 dc + 2 ch + 2.dc in next shell, 1 sc in 2-ch space b/w shells *
Row 7: Worked as Row 6.
Row 8: Worked as Row 5.
Row 9: Worked as Row 6.

Row 10: Worked as Row 6.
Row 11: Worked as Row 5.
Row 12: Worked as Row 6.
Row 13: Worked as Row 6.
Row 14: Worked as Row 5, but with 1 ch b/w shells.
Row 15: Worked as Row 5, but with 1 ch b/w shells.
Row 16 + 17: Worked as Row 5.
Row 18: 5 ch,* 2 dc in next 2-ch space, 2 ch * across,  1 dc, 1 sl.st. in third ch of initial 5-ch.
Row 19: 3 ch, 1 dc in next space, * 2 ch, 2 dc in next 2-ch space * across, finish with  2 dc in last  2-ch space and sl.st in the third  ch of the initial stitch.
Repeat Rows 18 and 19 4 more times.
Row 28: 9 ch, skip 3 blocks (where “block” is either 2 dc or 2ch-space), *1 tr, 5 ch, skip 3 blocks * across – 9 5-ch spaces made.
Row 29: 1 sl.st., 2 dc + 2 ch + 2 dc in each 5-ch space across.
Row 30: 2 ch, * 2 dc + 2 ch + 2 dc in next shell, 2 ch, 1 sc between two shells , 2 ch *
Row 31: 2 ch, * 3 dc + 2 ch + 3 dc in next shell, 2 ch *
Row 32: 4 ch, * 3 dc + 2 ch + 3 dc in next shell, 2 ch, 1 sc in 2-ch space between shells , 2 ch *
Row 33: 4 ch, * 3 dc + 2 ch + 3 dc in next shell, 3 ch *
Row 34: = Row 32
Row 35: 9 ch, * 1 sc in next shell, 5 ch, 1 tr in next sc, 5 ch *.
Row 36: = Row 29

Repeat
Rows 29 and 35 until you reach the desired length of the sleeve. Fasten
off. Make the second sleeve the same way.
